Bay Area basketball fans and hoop heads everywhere where shocked when Baron Davis opted out of the last year of his contract with the Golden State Warriors to become an unrestricted free agent. What’s worse is that now that Davis has indicated he’s most likely going to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, Baron Davis has added more fuel to the ongoing Socal, Norcal battle…first Socal steals drinking water and now basketball players . Then after Davis bolted to the Clippers the Warriors turned around and offered Elton Brand max money after he opted out of his contract with the Clippers.
It looks like Brand is going to stay with the Clippers and play with Davis which instantly makes the Clippers a pretty alright team in the west if everyone stays healthy. What I don’t understand about the whole situation is why Baron Davis would opt out of a deal that was going to pay him $17.8 million next year. What kind of knucklehead walks away from that kind of money? There are a lot worse things to do for $18 million than play basketball no matter what kind of situation you’re in, especially when you’re new contract is only paying you $12 million a year. I understand Baron wanted to play in L.A. because it is his home but couldn’t he have waited a year?
