November 2008

BeerMail

You may have already noticed but Beer.com has been undergoing some major changes. We're really trying to keep everything up to date and innovative for our users. With that being said we'd like to introduce everyone to the new BeerMail.

What's so new about it?

We've completely scrapped the old email system and updated it with a functional multipurpose system based on Zimbra Collaboration Suite. This means tons of new features, more email space and an instant messaging system.

Instant Messaging? How is that going to work?

The Buddy List is a function available directly on most BeerMail pages after login to communicate with other BeerMail users and friends. No software download is required. Getting started is as easy as adding a friend and waiting for them to accept your request.

What are the other new features?

The new BeerMail service offers calendaring, task management, and more.

The preference options with the new service are as detailed as you can imagine. You'll now be able to customize the following sections:

General (Login preferences)

Mail (Displaying Messages, Receiving Messages)

Composing

Signatures

Address Book

Mail Filters

Calendar

These are just some of the newest features that the new BeerMail will be offering.

Your current login user name and password have been carried over to the new BeerMail system. All you have to worry about is forwarding any previous emails that you wish to keep to the new service. You will have approximately 30 days to do this before the old service is no longer available.

Your inbound email will shortly be re-routed to the new service, so in the meantime your new inbox will be empty.

We're very excited to launch the new email service and hear what you think. The new service will be available to the general beer.com community with in the next couple weeks. During this time there will be two BeerMail links on Beer.com so you can switch back and forth from old to new to migrate any of your important emails.

Flash Games

Some of you have already noticed the addition of Flash Games to the site. This section is still under construction but there should be plenty of option soon enough.

The Big One...

There is one more update under way, a big one, actually a huge one. An update a lot of you have asked for for quite some time now. What update am I talking about? Well you'll just have to wait and see. I promise though that we will keep you posted.

September 25th

The site has clearly gone through some serious cosmetic and technical changes since last year. Most recently it's had some new exciting additions. The following are for registered users only, but registration is free and easy so there's really no reason not to be.

Beer Reviews: Know of a beer that hasn't been posted on the site? Whether you love it or hate it you now have the ability to post it yourself. Simply log in to your account and on the right side panel there is a section called "Beer Review". Follow the steps in the form and check out your new post in the Beer Review Section.

Bar Review: We've all been to restaurants and pubs that were good or bad for whatever reason. With Bar Reviews you can brag about or warn other members about your local bars. The form itself has tons of room for information such as beers on tap, but don't feel obligated to fill it all out. If you come across a bar that hasn't been filled out and you want to add to it, simple click edit and change what needs to be changed. Anybody can do this to any review.

Avatars: Members can now customize their user accounts with avatars. An Avatar is a small picture beside your account name that can be used to quickly identify you on the leader boards.

Leader boards and Point System: The new account profiles have a point system integrated in to them. Basically what this means is every article you comment or review you submit you'll be rewarded with points. As of right now these points are for status and will rank you up through the leader boards. In the future these points will be used for bigger better and more exciting purposes, but you'll find out about that soon enough.

[Bars & pubs] Submit a Bar Review = 32xp

New Girl Galleries: We know how popular the Girls are on here and we felt bad only giving you guys a few pictures to look at. So we've amped it up and have 15-20+ high quality images for each girl.

There are tons of new changes still to come and some even more exciting interactive controls for users.
