The Lafayette Tap Room had a geographical crisis recently: for years the club was located at this site -- attached to decrepit landmark Lafayette Hotel -- before moving a few blocks west to digs on Pearl Street, where ascending a steep staircase resulted in a complete legs and buns workout before entering the bar. Then, happily, the operation moved back to this original location. Even the shaggy stuffed bison head has returned, mounted high upon a wall and keeping watch over revelers.
The club is located on Washington Street between Lafayette Square and underused Eagle Street -- on-street parking is available as well as in a lot alongside the building. Besides the front bar area Lafayette Tap Room sports a cozy middle area with seating, second bar, and a rear room with smaller stage and even more space for congregating. Nominal cover charges are collected at the door on weekends and LTR is perfect post-Thursday at the Square destination.
