Appearance:
Polished deep golden colored ale. Vanilla accented head of mainly fine beaded carbonation.
Smell:
Aromatically, alcohol, toffee that is bordering on burnt, malt and an unusual woody element present themselves forthrightly.
Taste:
Body is medium. On the palate, maple, caramel, toffee and alcohol collectively coat the tongue with conviction. Middle delivers toffee married to alcohol, underscored by a persistent hop bitterness. Finish is fairly long with spirited alcohol, maple, caramel and hops intertwined, with a hint of sourness kicking in late.
Notes:
Champion Draught Barley Wine of Britain 1993/94 & 1994/95. Bottle conditioned, therefore yeast sediment in the bottle. For a clear beer, pour carefully in one go, leaving about an inch of yeast and beer in the bottle. Real ale in a bottle.
